Cavalier Women Finish First Day of ACC Championships

BOSTON-The Virginia women’s track and field team finished the first day of action at the ACC Indoor Championships Thursday (Feb. 25) at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston.
The distance medley relay of sophomore Caroline Clark (Washington, D.C.), junior Andrea Wright (Chesapeake, Va.), freshman Alexia Roux (Le Mont-sur-Lausanne, Switzerland) and graduate student Sarah Astin (Isle of Man, Great Britain) placed eighth in a time of 11:31.14.
“It was great to see those four young ladies, three running in their first ever ACC track meet,” UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. “It is a long three days so that gets started in the right direction.”
Freshmen Holly Sullivan (Chester Springs, Pa.) and Alana Herran (Orange, N.J.) both earned season-best scores in the pentathlon, finishing 13th and 16th, respectively. Sullivan’s score of 3,411 points ranks third on UVA’s all-time freshman list, while Herran’s tally of 3,396 ranks fourth.
“Both Holly and Alana continuing to improve their marks on a great stage like the ACC Championships is a very valuable experience for them,” Fetzer said.
After the first day, Virginia sits in 12th place with one point. Florida State leads with 24, followed by Duke and Louisville, who have 15 points.
The action continues Friday (Feb. 26) at 11 a.m. ESPN3 will have a live broadcast from 5-8 p.m.
