CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia track and field program had three individuals and one relay team selected to compete at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships, to be held in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham CrossPlex March 11-12.

The Cavaliers will be represented by graduate student Iona Lake (Norwich, England) in the women’s mile, junior Henry Wynne (Westport, Conn.) in the men’s mile and redshirt-sophomore Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) in the men’s shot put. The men’s distance medley relay has also been selected to compete in Birmingham.

Lake, the ACC champion in the women’s mile, will be seeded ninth at the national meet. It is Lake’s first NCAA Indoor Championship meet. Her time of 4:36.11 at the ACC meet is fifth on UVA’s all-time list and was a personal record by over six seconds.

Wynne was a two-time ACC champion last weekend in Boston after winning the men’s mile and anchoring the men’s distance medley relay. Wynne also finished second in the 3,000 meters to earn All-ACC honors. His mile time of 3:58.74, set at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational in Boston, gives Wynne a No. 14 seed. Wynne was also a part of the DMR that finished sixth at the 2015 NCAA indoor meet, earning first-team All-America honors.

Mihaljevic, the two-time defending ACC indoor champion in the men’s shot put, broke the ACC and school record at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet in Lexington, Ky., with a mark of 20.69m (67′ 10.75″). Mihaljevic, who will be seeded second, earned second-team All-America honors with a 14th-place finish at last year’s NCAA indoor meet.

The men’s DMR will compete at the NCAA indoor meet for the second-consecutive year. The Cavaliers successfully defended their ACC title in the event last weekend in Boston. UVA’s converted time of 9:27.89 (from a flat track to a banked track) at the UCS Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., gives the Cavaliers a No. 7 seed.

The men’s and women’s mile semifinals and the men’s distance medley relay will be run on March 11, while the shot put and the mile finals will be contested on March 12. ESPN3 will carry a live broadcast of the meet.
