The Cavaliers and Orange are meeting for the 32nd time in series history, but are playing each other for only the third time as part of ACC play. Virginia has won nine of the last 13 regular-season meetings, but three of the four losses have come at the Carrier Dome (2011, 2013, 2015). UVA owns the narrow 16-15 margin in the all-time series between two programs that recently won four combined NCAA titles between 2006-11.

The Orange came away with a 15-9 win the last time these teams got together in 2015 at the Carrier Dome. The last time UVA and Syracuse met at Klöckner Stadium, James Pannell scored seven goals and the Cavaliers cruised to a 17-12 win.

Zed Williams leads UVA with nine goals and is tied with Pannell for the team lead with 10 points. AJ Fish and Mike D’Amario are next on the goal-scoring ledger with six apiece. Conrad and Pannell round out the top scorers with five goals each. Jason Murphy is No. 2 in the ACC and No. 7 nationally at the faceoff X, winning 69.4 percent of his draws. Matt Barrett is saving 48.1 percent of shots he is seeing between the pipes and is posting a 10.04 goals against average.

Syracuse head coach John Desko is in his 18th year at Syracuse, where the Orange have won five NCAA national championships under his direction. Dylan Donahue leads Syracuse with six goals and 10 assists for 16 points. Derek DeJoe also has six goals. Nick Mariano and Sergio Salcido round out the top goal scorers for the Orange with five apiece. Ben Williams is No. 1 in the ACC and No. 4 nationally at the faceoff X, winning 71.2 percent of his draws. Warren Hill is saving 54.1 percent of the shots between the pipes and posting a 6.18 goals against average.
