Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 21 Virginia men’s golf team travels to Georgia this weekend for the Linger Longer Invitational at the par-72, 7,073-yard Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga. The 54-hole tournament runs Sunday through Tuesday. Split tees will be used each day with play starting at 8:30 a.m.
This year’s tournament field includes Alabama, Augusta, Baylor, Charlotte, Georgia, Kennesaw State, Louisville, Mercer, Missouri, Purdue, South Alabama and UNCG. Texas won last year’s tournament at 24-under 840. This is UVA’s first appearance at the event.
Virginia’s lineup features junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y), junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), freshman Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.). Senior Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.) will compete as an individual.
Bard, who is ranked No. 48 in the latest Golfstat rankings, leads the team with a 71.47 stroke average. He has been UVA’s top scorer in four of eight tournaments this season.
