Stanger Moves Into Tie for First at Linger Longer

Greensboro, Ga. – The No. 21 Virginia men’s golf team is in second place after 36 holes of competition at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Golf Course in Greensboro, Ga. The Cavaliers shot 3-over 291 on Monday for a two-day total of 6-under 570. No. 12 Alabama leads the 13-team field at 9-under 567.

Virginia junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) is tied for first place entering Tuesday’s final round of play. He posted UVA’s best second-round score, shooting 4-under 68. Stanger shares first place with Georgia’s Lee McCoy at 7-under 137.

Cavalier junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) is tied for third, just two shots behind the leaders at 5-under 139. After opening with a score of 68, Bard shot 1-under 71 during the second round.

Virginia freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is in 24th place at 2-over 146 after shooting 77 on Monday. Freshman Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) is tied with teammate Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) for 49th place at 151. UVA senior Nick McLaughlin (New Castle, N.H.), who is competing as an individual, is in 73rd place at 163.

Tuesday’s final round gets underway at 9 a.m. UVA, Alabama and August will start from the first tee at 10:40 a.m. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
