CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The Virginia men’s and women’s track and field teams open the 2016 outdoor season at the Fred Hardy Invitational Friday and Saturday (March 25-26) in Richmond, Va. Friday’s action at Robins Stadium is set to begin at 3 p.m., while Saturday’s slate is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.

The Cavalier men were tabbed No. 8 in the preseason U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll, tying for the highest ranking in program history.

The meet will see the Cavalier debut of graduate student Aisha Naibe-Wey (London, England) in the women’s 400 meters. Two scorers at the ACC Indoor Championships will be in action, including sophomore Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) in the women’s pole vault. Senior Christian Lavorgna (Jefferson, N.J.), who scored in the men’s heptathlon at the conference indoor meet, will compete in the pole vault, 110m hurdles and discus.

Up next, the Cavaliers will head to Gainesville, Fla., March 31-April 2 for the Florida Relays.
