CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Virginia baseball team plays VCU at The Diamond in Richmond at 7 p.m. Tuesday and returns home at 5 p.m. Wednesday to battle George Washington at Davenport Field. The busy week starts a stretch of six games in eight days for the Cavaliers (18-11, 6-6 ACC).

WINA 1070-AM and 98.9-FM will broadcast the Tuesday game at VCU.

Virginia-VCU Series
Virginia holds a 39-19 lead in its all-time series with VCU. UVA has won the last 16 meetings with the Rams, all during the tenure of the current coaching staff (since 2004). VCU’s last win against UVA came in 2003. The Cavaliers have won their last eight trips to The Diamond, including a 5-3 win on March 31, 2015.

Richmond Natives Return to Back Yard
Five Cavaliers hail from the Richmond vicinity. Derek Casey (Hanover HS), Jack Gerstenmaier (Douglas Freeman HS), Daniel Lynch (Douglas Freeman HS), Jack Roberts (James River HS) and Riley Wilson (Cosby HS) each attended high school in the Richmond area.

Virginia Against In-State Foes
UVA is 3-1 this season against in-state opponents. Since 2004, the Cavaliers have a 114-25-1 record against in-state foes.

Virginia-GW Series
Virginia leads its all-time series with George Washington, 22-13. UVA has won six straight against the Colonials dating to GW’s last win, 17-5 in Charlottesville in 2008. The programs did not play last season.

Noting VCU
VCU (18-10, 5-1 A-10) swept Dayton last weekend in a home Atlantic-10 series and is now 12-4 at The Diamond this season. Jimmy Kerrigan leads the team in batting at .368 and owns a team-high nine doubles and 22 runs. He also boasts a .460 on-base percentage. VCU is batting .254 as a team, has a 4.54 team ERA and a .970 fielding percentage.

Noting GW
GW (10-18, 2-1 A-10) took two of three games from LaSalle last weekend in its opening Atlantic 10 weekend. The Colonials play at UMBC Tuesday before coming to Charlottesville Wednesday. Mark Osis leads the team with a .389 batting average, while Kevin Mahala has a team-high 28 RBI. GW is batting .275 as a team, has a 4.82 team ERA and a .975 fielding percentage.
