TACARIGUA, Trinidad – Virginia field hockey sophomore midfielder Tara Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) earned a silver medal as a member of the U.S. Junior National Team while competing at the Junior Women’s Pan American Championship held in Tacarigua, Trinidad & Tobago from March 30 – April 9, 2016.

The American junior national team powered through pool play with a 10-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago, a 5-1 win over Canada and a 9-0 win over Mexico. The Americans downed Barbados 11-0 in the quarterfinals and Chile 5-0 in the semifinals to set up a meeting with Argentina in Saturday’s championship game. Argentina won gold with a 6-0 shutout victory.

Vittese scored three goals during the tournament, one each in the contests against Trinidad & Tobago, Canada and Barbados.

With its second-place finish, the U.S. Junior National Team earned a spot in the field of the 2016 Junior World Cup, which will be held November 23 through December 4 in Santiago, Chile.

Vittese, the 2015 Longstreth/NFHCA National Player of the Year and a two-time first-team All-American, has been a member of the U21 team since 2012, including leading the team in scoring at the 2013 Junior World Cup in Monchengladbach, Germany.
