Virginia Announces Addition Of Edwin Rubio For 2016-17

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head coach Steve Garland announced Wednesday that heavyweight Edwin Rubio (Huntington, N.Y.) signed a financial aid agreement to compete with the Cavaliers beginning in the 2016-17 academic year.

A decorated wrestler, Rubio is the latest addition to the program for the upcoming academic year, joining eight other wrestlers previously announced as additions to the program.

A product of John Glenn High School, Rubio claimed the 2016 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championship at heavyweight. He also is a two-time All-State selection.

Rubio is a three-time National High School Coaches Association All-American and is a two-time Eastern States Champion, claiming the championship in 2015 and 2016.
