CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Rosie Johanson has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Virginia women’s tennis program for the 2016-17 academic year, head coach Mark Guilbeau announced on Thursday.

Johanson joins three players who signed with the Cavaliers in the fall signing period and will be eligible to compete in the upcoming season. She joins Hunter Bleser, Camille Favero and Chloe Gullickson who all signed with the Cavaliers in the fall.

A decorated player, Johanson recently reached the quarterfinals of the ITF International Junior Spring Championships. She has won multiple ITF junior titles in both singles and doubles, and she was a leader for the Canadian Junior Team Championships squad in international competition.

“We are very excited to have Rosie joining UVA and the women’s tennis program,” Guilbeau said. “It has been a great pleasure recruiting Rosie and getting to know her better. Rosie has specific and high level academic and athletic goals. Her work ethic, attention to detail and appreciation for all parts of her process on and off the courts will be tremendously valuable and important characteristics for her and for her team. Along with Camille, Chloe and Hunter, Rosie adds to an incredibly strong and positive class for Fall 2016 and beyond. We can’t wait to continue this process with them.”

In the rankings, Johanson has been as high as 830 in the WTA singles rankings and 372 in the WTA doubles rankings. She also is ranked 122 in the ITF junior singles rankings.

Johanson has been ranked as high as 15 in the TennisRecruiting.com rankings.

“I am extremely honored and very excited to have the opportunity to sign and play tennis at the University of Virginia,” Johanson said. “The academic excellence, as well as the athletic achievements, at the University of Virginia are second to none and I couldn’t be more proud to be representing them this fall. Mark (Guilbeau) and assistant coach Troy Porco were very helpful throughout my recruiting process and the team was welcoming on my official visit. I loved the city of Charlottesville and all the character and history that surrounds it. I can’t wait to start in the fall.”
