Charlottesville, Va. – After taking a week off to watch junior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) play at the Masters, the No. 21 Virginia men’s golf team will compete at NC State’s Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate this weekend. The 54-hole tournament features 36 holes of play on Saturday and a final round on Sunday at NC State’s Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
The tournament is UVA’s final regular-season event before it competes at the ACC Championships. The Cavaliers have managed top-four finishes in seven of nine events this year.
UVA’s lineup includes Bard, junior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), freshman Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), sophomore Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.). Senior Kyle Kochevar (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and sophomore Connor Messick (Oak Hill, Va.) will compete as individuals.
Bard leads the team with a 71.31 stroke average and is ranked No. 35 in the latest Golfstat standings. Stanger is No. 69 and Walker is No. 98 in the Golfstat poll.
The tournament field includes Chattanooga, Columbia, Davidson, East Tennessee State, Elon, Francis Marion, George Mason, Loyola-Maryland, Manhattan, Middle Tennessee State, NC State, Penn, Richmond, South Florida and VCU.
