Greensboro, N.C. – The No. 18 Virginia women’s golf team remains atop the leaderboard at the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C., but the Cavaliers’ first-round 11-stroke lead has shrunk to six shots. UVA leads the 12-team field entering Sunday’s final round at 3-under 573. Wake Forest moved into second place at 3-over 579. Duke is third at 14-over 590.

The Cavaliers have now held the lead through the last five rounds of ACC Championship play, dating back to last year’s 26-stroke win at Sedgefield Country Club.

UVA senior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) owns a three-shot lead in stroke play. She followed up her opening-round 66 with a 71 on Saturday for a two-day total of 7-under 137. Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho is in second place at 4-under 140 and Virginia junior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) holds down third place at 141.

Coughlin and Diaz-Yi were two of just five golfers to break par on Saturday. Diaz-Yi’s 2-under 70 was UVA’s low round for the day.

UVA freshman Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) shot 75 and fell back to 11th place at 3-over 147. Classmate Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) also posted a score of 75 and is in 19th place at 149. Senior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) carded a round of 74 and is in 25th place at 150.

In addition to playing for the ACC title, for the first time a point is at stake between UVA and Virginia Tech towards the Commonwealth Clash. This is the Hokies first time competing at the ACC Championships. They finished the second round in 12th place at 54-over 630. UVA currently leads the Clash 9-5.

Sunday’s final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. from the first and 10th tees. The Cavaliers are paired with Duke and Wake Forest. They will tee off starting at 9:20 a.m. from the first tee. Live scoring of the tournament is online at Golfstat.com. ESPN3 will broadcast the tournament starting at 1 p.m. until its conclusion.
