Personal Bests Highlight No. 4 UVA Men's Day at Radford

RADFORD, Va.-The No. 4 Virginia men’s track and field team won two events on the first day of the Highlander Invitational at Cupp Stadium Friday (April 29) in Radford, Va.
In the pole vault, redshirt sophomore Jeff Jernigan (DeKalb, Ga.) reached a personal-record height of 4.96m (16′ 3.25″), which ranks fourth on UVA’s all-time list.
Junior Filip Mihaljevic (Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina) won the discus with a Cupp Stadium record of 61.12m (200′ 6″). Sophomore James Williams (Radford, Va.) hit a mark of 51.44m (168′ 9″), while fellow sophomore Anthony Bouselli (Hawley, Pa.) had a personal-best throw of 45.35m (148′ 9″).
In the long jump, redshirt sophomore Aaron Worrell (Fort Eustis, Va.) captured first place with a mark of 7.22m (23′ 8.25″ – wind-aided), while freshman Charlie Lambert (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was third with a leap of 6.88m (22′ 6.75″).
Bouselli competed unopposed in the javelin and had a best throw of 59.15m (194′ 1″).
“We had a good week of practice and great weather conditions today that led to multiple personal records,” UVA assistant coach Mario Wilson said. “It is good to see all of the student-athletes’ hard work is paying off and that they are starting to see rewards for their efforts.”
