Stanford, Calif. – The No. 15 Virginia women’s golf team is tied for third place following the second round of play at the NCAA Regional at Stanford. The Cavaliers shot 12-over 296 on Friday for a two-day total of 16-over 584.

Playing on its home course, No. 12 Stanford grabbed the second round lead at 1-over 569. No. 2 USC is second at 3-over 571. Ohio State is tied with the Cavaliers and No. 7 Arkansas is in fifth place at 21-over 589. North Carolina holds down sixth place at 23-over 591.

The top six teams from the three-day, 54-hole tournament will advance to the NCAA Championships.

Senior Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill.) led UVA during the second round with a 2-under 69. She played her final 10 holes at 3-under par. Szokol moved up to sixth place at even par 142. Senior Lauren Coughlin (Chesapeake, Va.) is in 14th place at 145. She posted a second round score of 72.

The freshman duo of Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) and Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) dropped back on the leaderboard after posting scores of 78 and 77, respectively. Gonzales is in 30th place at 148 and Redding is 39th at 149. Junior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) is in 74th place at 155.

Stanford’s Mariah Stackhouse and Arkansas’ Alana Uriell are tied for first place at 3-under 139.

UVa is making its 12th straight appearance at an NCAA Regional. The Cavaliers are looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the ninth time in the program’s 13-year history.

UVA will tee off from the first tee at starting at 8:30 a.m. PT during Saturday’s final round. The Cavaliers will be paired with Arkansas and North Carolina. Live scoring of the tournament is online at Golfstat.com.
