Charlottesville, Va. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today Virginia junior men’s golfers Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) have been named to the 2016 All-ACC team.

Virginia was one of three ACC schools with multiple representatives on the team. ACC Champion Clemson had four selections while UVA and Florida State both placed two golfers on the all-conference squad.

Bard was named All-ACC for the second time in his career after picking up the honor last season. He currently leads the team with a 71.25 stroke average and has posted six top-10 finishes this season. His stroke average ranks fourth in the ACC. He enters next week’s NCAA Regional ranked No. 37 by both Golfstat and Golfweek. Bard led UVA in scoring in six of 11 tournaments and repeated as the medalist at the U.S. Collegiate Championships.

Stanger picks up All-ACC honors for the first time. He is second on the UVA squad with a 71.97 stroke average and has five top-10 finishes this season. He tied for first at the General Hackler Championship in March. He ranks 17th in the ACC in stroke average and is No. 74 in the current Golfstat rankings and No. 83 for the latest Golfweek individual poll.

Florida State’s Hank Lebioda garnered ACC Player of the Year accolades, while Clemson’s Bryson Nimmer and Larry Penley won ACC Freshman and Coach of the Year, respectively. The All-ACC Team, Player and Freshman of the Year were decided by a combination of the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin rankings in conjunction with a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches, while Coach of the Year was selected by a vote of the coaches.

The 26th-ranked Cavaliers open play at the 2016 NCAA Regional Championship in Franklin, Tenn., next Monday.
