CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-Virginia senior diver Carl Buergler has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District 3 At-Large First Team, CoSIDA announced Thursday (May 12). With the selection, Buergler is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Buergler, a native of Arlington, Va., placed seventh in both the 1-meter and platform diving events at the ACC Championships. He also finished 10th on the 3-meter boards at the conference meet. Buergler was named to the All-ACC Academic Team twice in his career and was a 2015 CSCAA Scholar Honorable Mention All-American. He was honored with the Gus Tebell Memorial Award at UVA’s annual awards dinner on May 4 for being the male fourth-year student-athlete with the highest scholastic average. Buergler is majoring in mechanical engineering and has a cumulative GPA of 3.85.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

The men’s at-large sports include fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. District III encompasses the states of North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
