Cavaliers Earn CRCA Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va – Thirteen members of the Virginia rowing program were recognized with Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) honors last week.
Senior Sam Casto (Dallas, Pa.) and juniors Erin Briggs (Orono, Minn.), Colette Lucas-Conwell (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Georgia Ratcliff (Falls Church, Va.) were named to the CRCA All-Region 3 first team, while senior Tessa Dikkers (Pelham, N.Y.) was recognized on the second team.
Casto, Ratcliff and Lucas-Conwell earned all-region honors for the second consecutive season. Casto and Lucas-Conwell were named to the all-region first team last season, while Ratcliff was named to the second team. Casto, Briggs, Lucas-Conwell, Ratcliff and Dikkers were part of the UVA Varsity Eight that finished fifth at the NCAA Championships last weekend in Gold River, Calif., and was named ACC Crew of the Year after winning the ACC title in May.
Grace Tuttle (Vienna, Va.), Madelyn Clark (Mechanicsville, Va.), Kameryn Corcoran (Middletown, Md.), Jo Gurman (Weston, Conn.), Dana Lueker (Williamsburg, Va.), Allie Nicholson (Charlottesville, Va.) and Karen Schulte (Trout Run, Pa.), Marissa Patrick (Vienna, Va.) and Dikkers were named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes.
Tuttle was part of the ACC champion Second Varsity Four and Dikkers was part of the ACC champion V8 that placed fifth nationally. Gurman and Schulte were part of the ACC champion Varsity Four that placed third at NCAAs, while Nicholson rowed on the ACC champion Second Varsity Eight that placed fourth at the NCAAs.
To be eligible for the CRCA National Scholar-Athlete honor, student-athletes were required to have a 3.5 cumulative GPA, be in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility and rowed in her institution’s NCAA or IRA eligible boat for a minimum of 75 percent of the current spring races or race in a conference regatta.
