Lynchburg, Va. – Three members of the UVA golf program were recognized when the 2016 VaSID All-State University Division Men’s Golf team was released today by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Bowen Sargent was selected the VaSID Men’s Golf Coach of the Year for the second season in a row and the fifth time during his career in Charlottesville. He received the same honors in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2015.

Sargent led the Cavaliers to a return trip to the NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship with Virginia finishing in 22nd place at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. The Cavaliers also finished the year ranked No. 22 in the country in the final Golfstat national rankings.

Sargent, who has been at the helm of the Cavaliers’ program for the last 12 seasons, had juniors Derek Bard and Jimmy Stanger named to the VaSID all-state first team. Bard was also a PING All-America third-team honoree. Both Bard and Stanger were all-ACC selections.

James Madison’s Ryan Cole, the Colonial Athletic Association’s golfer of the year, was named the VaSID Men’s Golfer of the Year, while his teammate Henderson was tabbed the VaSID Men’s Golf Rookie of the Year. Henderson was named the CAA Rookie of the Year
