CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ââ’¬” The Virginia men’s soccer program has announced five additions to its incoming recruiting class for the 2016-17 season. The quartet brings UVA’s incoming group to a total of 14 student-athletes, while the class is ranked third nationally by Top Drawer Soccer and fifth by College Soccer News.

The new additions include Robin Afamefuna (Wuerselen, Germany), Leon Maric (Gilbertsville, Pa.), Jerren “JJ” Nixon (Atlanta, Ga.), Sergi Nus (Barcelona, Spain) and Thorri Runarrson (Reykjavik, Iceland).

Following are brief bios on each of the newcomers:

Robin Afamefuna, D/M
– Played for Borussia Mönchengladbach club team
– Primarily plays left and center back and central midfield

Leon Maric, F
– Played for FC Delco club team
– Scored 18 goals during 2015-16 season

Jerren “JJ” Nixon, F
– Played for Philadelphia Union Academy
– Called in to training camp for Trinidad & Tobago’s U-20 National Team
– Father, Jerren Nixon, played for FC Zürich and made 38 caps with the Trinidad & Tobago senior team from 1993 to 2004

Sergi Nus, D
– Transfer from Fresno Pacific, where he played one year of college soccer
– Scored one goal and added one assist during freshman season
– Played in high school at IES LLuís Domènech i Montaner

Thorri Runarrson, M
– Played for Stjarnan FC in Iceland
– Made two caps with Iceland’s U-21 National Team

The quintet joins a recruiting class which already includes Max Diamond (Hopedale, Mass.), Victor Falck (Virginia Beach, Va.), Josh Goldstern (Livingston, N.J.), Aaron James (Amherst, Mass.), Terrell Lowe (Hillsboro, Ore.), Lucas Mendes (Arlington, Va.), Colin Shutler (Broadlands, Va.) and Raheem Taylor-Parkes (Tampa, Fla.) as well as transfer Bay Kurtz (Crown Point, Ind.) from Liberty.
