CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-The reigning ACC champion Virginia women’s cross country team announced its 2016 schedule Friday (July 29). The Cavaliers will host three meets at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, including the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships.

“Our schedule is created to allow our teams to perform the best during the championship phase of the year,” UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. “We don’t shy away from competition and love the opportunity to compete three times at home, so we feel our schedule is perfect.”

UVA will have the opportunity to prepare for the championship season by visiting each of the sites earlier in the season.

“We feel it will be a nice advantage for us to see each championship course during the regular season that we will be competing on later in the year,” UVA women’s cross country coach Todd Morgan said.

Virginia opens the season with the UVA Duals on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m., where the Cavaliers will compete against James Madison, Liberty and Norfolk State.

The Cavaliers will travel to Cary, N.C., the site of the 2016 ACC Championships, to compete at the adidas XC Challenge on Sept. 16. The conference meet will be held Oct. 28.

UVA will host the annual Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational on Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. The meet will once again feature several top teams including BYU, Coastal Carolina, SMU, Syracuse and Wake Forest.

“Panorama Farms is an incredible place to compete and we continue to improve the meet each year with new competitive universities attending,” Fetzer said. “This might be the best since my arrival. The crowds have been amazing and I expect with this being the All-Sports Reunion weekend, we may have an even larger amount this year. In addition, we are hosting an alumni event that evening.”

Next up, the Cavaliers will compete in the Pre-National Invitational in Terre, Haute, Ind., on Oct. 15. The meet will be held on the same course where the NCAA Championships will be held on Nov. 19.

“Very few of our women have been to the course in Terre Haute, which led us to the decision to go to Pre-Nationals this year,” Fetzer said. “After three straight top-15 finishes at NCAAs, we want to provide the best opportunity for continued success.”

Virginia’s final home meet of the season for the third time in four years will be the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships at Panorama Farms on Nov. 11 at noon. The meet serves as one of nine regional meets to determine the field for the NCAA Championships.

Admission to all home Virginia cross country meets is free.
