Springfield, Pa. – Virginia sophomore women’s golfer Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) advanced to the match play portion of the 116th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship on Tuesday. Redding tied for 39th place after 36 holes of stroke play to be one of 64 players to make it to the match play portion of the tournament.

Redding shot even par 71 during Monday’s first round of stroke play and followed that up with a 2-over 73 on Tuesday at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa.

Four other current or former Cavaliers failed to advance in the tournament.

Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) shot 6-over 148 and missed the playoff for the final match play spots by one stroke. She had rounds of 75 and 73. Former UVA player Lauren Greenlief shot 10-over 152, sophomore Lyndsey Hunnell (Troutville, Va.) finished at 160 and Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.) shot 169.

Starting Wednesday, six 18-hole rounds of match play will determine the champion. The first round of match play takes place Wednesday while rounds two and three are contested Thursday. The quarterfinals are Friday, semifinals on Saturday and the 36-hole championship final takes place Sunday.
