USA Field Hockey Opens Pool Play with 2-1 Win

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – The United States hockey team opened pool play at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games with a 2-1 victory over Argentina.
The American squad, playing in Pool B, used goals from Katie Reinprecht and Michelle Kasold to take down the Argentinians. Former Cavalier All-American Michelle Vittese, competing in her second Olympics, took one of the eight shots for the American team.
Team USA is currently ranked fifth in the world while Argentina is No. 2. The American team defeated Argentina, 2-1, to win gold at the 2015 Pan Am Games, which earned the team its berth in Rio.
Next up for Team USA will be their second game in pool play, taking on third-ranked Australia on Monday, August 8 at 9 a.m. Eastern Time. All of the games will be streamed live online on nbcolympics.com.
