RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil–Former Cavalier Michelle Vittese and the U.S. field hockey team were eliminated from the Rio Olympics by Germany, 2-1, in the quarterfinals Monday (Aug. 15).

The Germans used two first-quarter goals from Marie Mavers in the eighth minute and Lisa Altenburg in the 14th minute to gain the early advantage. Team USA pulled within one on a 57th-minute tally from Katelyn Falgowski.

Vittese (Class of 2013) made her second Olympic appearance with Team USA, who finished second in Pool B with a 4-1 record. Vittese scored two goals and assisted on the game-winning goal against Japan. In 2012 at the London Olympics, the Americans finished in 12th place.
