CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The nationally-ranked Virginia cross country teams open the 2016 season with the UVA Duals Thursday evening (Sept. 1) at Panorama Farms in Earlysville.

The women’s 4K race will begin at 6 p.m., with the men’s race to start shortly after the conclusion of the women’s contest. Admission to the meet is free.

The Cavalier men are ranked No. 12 in the Saucony/FloTrack 50 national poll and No. 15 in the USTFCCCA national rankings, while the Virginia women have tabbed No. 16 in the USTFCCCA rankings and No. 26 in the Saucony/FloTrack 50 poll.

Virginia will be competing against James Madison, Liberty and Norfolk State in the women’s race and Liberty and NSU in the men’s contest.

The Cavalier women captured the 2015 ACC Championship, their first since 1982, and finished 15th at the NCAA Championships. The UVA men finished third at ACCs and 22nd at NCAAs. Virginia was one of eight schools to automatically qualify both the men and women for the NCAA Championships.

Next up, the Cavaliers will travel to Cary, N.C., Sept. 16 for the adidas XC Challenge.
