CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –

The No. 5 Virginia field hockey team (1-1) hosts Rutgers (1-1) on Friday, Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. at University Hall Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.

Admission is free for all of Virginia’s regular-season home field hockey games. Live stats will be available through a Gametracker link on VirginiaSports.com.

Virginia comes into the game with a 1-1 record after downing Miami, 5-1, but falling 3-0 at No. 18 Penn State last week.

Senior striker Riley Tata (Virginia Beach, Va.) leads the team with two goals, scoring them on three shots. Senior striker Caleigh Foust (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) has taken a team-high 10 shots this season, followed by junior midfielder Tara Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) with seven.

Senior goalkeeper Rebecca Holden (Fishing Creek, N.J.) logged a career-best 12 saves in the Penn State game.

Virginia head coach Michele Madison is a Rutgers alumna. Madison played goalie for the Scarlet Knights and was named the Scarlet Knights MVP in her senior season.

Rutgers also comes into the game with a 1-1 record, falling at Bucknell in the season-opener, but rebounding with a 5-0 victory over VCU. Devon Freshnock and Linde van Schaik have scored two goals apiece.

Virginia is 3-0 all-time against the Scarlet Knights including a 5-4 victory last season in Piscataway.

The Cavaliers close out the weekend by hosting No. 14 Delaware on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 1 p.m.
