GREENSBORO, N.C.-The nationally-ranked Virginia men’s and women’s cross country teams were both picked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country Preseason Polls, the conference announced Thursday (Sept. 1). The polls were voted on by the league’s head coaches.

The UVA men, ranked 12th in the Saucony/FloTrack 50 national poll and 15th in the USTFCCCA national rankings, were picked to finish second behind three-time defending ACC champion Syracuse. NC State was selected third, followed by Louisville and Virginia Tech. The 2015 Cavaliers finished third at the ACC meet and 22nd at the NCAA Championships

The defending ACC champion Cavalier women, tabbed No. 16 in the USTFCCCA national rankings and 26th in the Saucony/FloTrack 50 national poll, were picked behind NC State. Notre Dame was third, followed by Syracuse and Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers placed 15th at the 2015 NCAA Championships.

The Cavalier squads open the 2016 season Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. with the UVA Duals at Panorama Farms in Earlysville. Admission to Virginia home meets is free.
