Franklin, Tenn. – The Virginia women’s golf team shot 15-over 303 during the opening round of Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship to finish the first day of play in 13th place. Northwestern and Alabama lead the 15-team field after finishing at 4-under 284.

The event is the Cavaliers’ first tournament of the fall.

UVA was led during Friday’s opening round with a 2-over 74 by senior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.). Also shooting 74 was junior Sarah Kolodzik (Bellbrook, Ohio), who is competing as an individual competitor and does not count in UVA’s team total. Both players are tied for 30th place.

Sophomore Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) is in 38th position after finishing with a 3-over 75. Classmates Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) and Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) are behind her on the leaderboard. Redding is in 47th place with a 76 and Gonzales is 61st at 78. Freshman Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) shot 81 in her first collegiate round. She is in 75th place.

The second round of the tournament will be played Saturday and the final round takes place Sunday. Virginia tees off at 8:45 a.m. Saturday from the 10th tee and is paired with Middle Tennessee State and Yale.
