Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 14 Virginia men’s golf team returns to action Monday when the Cavaliers compete in the 12th-annual Inverness Intercollegiate at the renowned Inverness Club. The 54-hole tournament will be played on a par-71, 7,323-yard layout. The 54-hole event will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. with 36 holes on Monday and a tee time start of 8 a.m. with 18 holes on Tuesday.

In addition to UVA and host school Toledo, the 13-team field includes Auburn, Austin Peay, Ball State, Bowling Green, Duke, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State and Saint Mary’s (CA).

The Cavaliers’ lineup at Inverness will include seniors Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) and freshmen Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) and Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.). Junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) will compete as an individual.

UVA is coming off a season-opening win at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. The Cavaliers shot 31-under 833 to finish six shots ahead of Auburn. Bard was the runner-up at the event, shooting 10-under 206. Walsh also posted a top-10 finish at 8-under 208. Stanger and Schaap tied for 11th at 210.

Pac-12 Conference member California secured last year’s Inverness Intercollegiate title at 25-over par 877 (291-293-293) and held a three-stroke cushion over 2014 team champion East Tennessee State at 28-over par 880 (293-293-294).

The Inverness Club was founded in 1903 and along with the University of Toledo served as host for the 2009 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships. Inverness has also hosted four U.S. Opens, two U.S. Senior Opens, two PGA Championships and one U..S Amateur.

Individually, Michigan State’s Mitch Rutledge captured medalist honors at two-under par 211 (75-70-66).
