Toledo, Ohio – In its second tournament of the season, the Virginia men’s golf team tied for sixth at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio. The Cavaliers posted a final-round score of even par 284 for a 54-hole total of 21-over 873. Auburn won the tournament at 9-under 843.

UVA could not overcome a slow start at the 13-team event. After shooting 12-over 296 during Monday’s first round, the Hoos were just 9-over for their final 36 holes.

The Cavaliers were led by 10th-place showings from senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) and junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) Both players finished at even par 213 at the Inverness Club, which was set up as a par-71 course for the tournament.

Stanger shot 73 during his final round while Walker finished with a 75. It was Stanger’s 10th top-10 performance during his UVA career and marked the eighth time Walker has placed that high. Walker competed as an individual competitor during the tournament.

Senior All-American Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) was 16th at 215. He shot 70 on Tuesday while sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) carded the team’s low round with a 2-under 69. Walsh placed 26th at 218.
