Reunion, Fla. – The Virginia women’s golf team is in ninth place after the first round of play at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Reunion, Fla. The Cavaliers shot 1-under 287 to start the three-day, 54-hole event. South Carolina grabbed the early lead, shooting 14-under 274.

UVA was led Sunday by senior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.). She shot 2-under 70 and stands in 14th place. Sophomores Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) and Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) both posted rounds of even par 72 and are tied for 28th position. Classmate Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) is one shot behind them in 35th place. Junior Sarah Kolodzik (Bellbrook, Ohio) carded a round of 81 and is in 60th place.

The tournament features one of the most competitive fields in the fall season. Of the 12-team field, 11 teams finished in the top-20 of last year’s final Golfweek poll.
