CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 12 Virginia field hockey team (6-4, 1-1 ACC) hosts No. 16 Wake Forest (5-4, 0-3 ACC) on Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. at University Hall Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va. Admission is free for all regular-season Virginia field hockey games.

Last weekend, the Cavaliers went 2-0 on their New England road trip, earning a 2-1 overtime victory at then-No. 9 Boston College followed by a 4-0 shutout at Fairfield.
Senior Lucy Hyams (Whitstable, England) scored a goal in both the BC and Fairfield games. Hyams leads the team with 12 points on three goals and six assists. Hyams also logged the 32nd assist of her career against Fairfield, which ranks her ninth in the UVA record book. Hyams needs two more assists to tie Natalie Wheatall (1982-85) for eighth place.
Junior Tara Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) leads the team with five goals and is second behind Hyams with 10 points. Vittese reached the 100 career points mark last Sunday at Fairfield after converting a penalty stroke. Vittese is now five points shy of moving into the UVA top-10 in career points.
Sophomore Greta Ell (Plains, Pa.) scored her first goal of the season against Fairfield, making her the seventh different Cavalier player to score this season.
Sophomore goalie Carrera Lucas (Brooklandville, Md.) earned her second shutout of the season at Fairfield, making five saves. Lucas currently ranks 11th in the NCAA in saves per game, averaging 7.50 per game.
Wake Forest is looking for its first conference win of the season after falling to Syracuse, North Carolina and Louisville, each of which was ranked in the top-10 when the Demon Deacons faced them. Nicola Puta leads the squad and is tied for third in the ACC with nine goals this season. Puta also has a team-high 21 points. Wake Forest is averaging 2.67 goals per game while holding opponents to 1.89.
Virginia holds a 21-18 advantage in the all-time series, including winning a top-10 showdown last season in Winston-Salem when the No. 5 Cavaliers downed the No. 7 Deacons, 2-1.
Virginia closes out its current homestand by hosting No. 14 Old Dominion (5-3) on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. at Turf Field.
