CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Seniors Ellen Pate (Lafayette, Calif.), Georgia Ratcliff (Falls Church, Va.), and Grace Tuttle (Vienna, Va.) have been named tri-captains for the 2016-17 Virginia rowing team, head coach Kevin Sauer announced Thursday (Sept. 29).

“These three young women, chosen by their peers, exemplify the DNA of our team: quality people, compassionate and driven to excellence,” Sauer said.

In 2015-16, Ratcliff earned Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association First-Team All-America honors as UVA’s Varsity Eight won its fifth-straight ACC championship and finished fifth at the NCAA Championships. Ratcliff, who helped Team USA to the gold medal at the 2016 World Under-23 Championships, is a three-time All-ACC Academic Rowing Team and ACC Honor Roll honoree.

Pate helped UVA’s Second Varsity Eight to an ACC championship and a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She rowed in the bow seat for the 2015 NCAA Champion Varsity Four and is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team and three-time ACC Honor Roll honoree.

Tuttle has been a part of ACC championships in the Second Varsity Four (2016) and Third Varsity Eight (2015). She earned CRCA National Scholar-Athlete accolades in 2016 and is a two-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member.

The seven-time defending ACC champions will compete in the 52nd Head of the Charles on Sunday, Oct. 23 in Boston.
