Virginia-Virginia Tech Series
Virginia and Virginia Tech are battling for the 47th time, with the Cavaliers owning a 39-4-3 advantage in the all-time series. UVA is unbeaten in its last 11 matches against the Hokies (8-0-3). UVA is 8-2-3 against Virginia Tech since the Hokies joined the ACC. Eleven of the 13 matches have been decided by one goal or a draw, including UVA’s 1-0 win in Blacksburg in 2015.
Cavaliers in Midst of Bevy of Home Matches
Playing in its 25th season at Klöckner Stadium, Virginia will stay home for the majority of its remaining schedule. The Cavaliers play six of their final eight regular-season matches at home. UVA is 3-0-2 at home this year and 260-52-21 in 25 years at Klöckner.
Busy Schedule for Hoos
Virginia started its busiest stretch of the season last Saturday at Louisville. Beginning with the Louisville contest, Virginia will play nine matches in a 28-day stretch. The Cavaliers have Tuesday non-conference matches slated for each of the next three weeks at home. Four of the nine games are against top-25 foes (Louisville, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame).
Cavaliers Benefit from Deep Roster
Virginia has shown off its deep roster and a more aggressive attack this season, playing at least 17 men in each contest. UVA used 21 players in wins against Coastal Carolina, VCU and Cornell. With 13 newcomers to the program, UVA has utilized seven different starting lineups in its eight matches.
Noting Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech is off to a great start, with a 7-2 record, including a 1-2 mark in ACC play. The Hokies’ latest match was last Friday, a 2-1 home defeat to Clemson. Marcelo Acuna leads the ACC with 41 shots and tops the team with five goals — four of which are game winners. The Hokies have outscored their opponents, 17-7, and recorded six clean sheets.
Cavaliers Thump Cornell, 4-0
Virginia scored a 4-0 result over Cornell Tuesday night at Klöckner. Paddy Foss, Wesley Wade and Sergi Nus each recorded goals for UVA, which also benefited from a Cornell own goal. The Cavaliers scored three second-half goals in an 11-minute span to pull away while recording their second clean sheet. Virginia out-shot Cornell, 11-5, and made the most of its shots, putting nine on goal.
