CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia junior midfielder Tara Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) has been selected as the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Offensive Player of the Week in honors announced Wednesday (Oct. 5).

Vittese helped lead the Cavaliers to a pair of victories over ranked opponents over the weekend. Vittese had a hand in the Cavaliers’ third and fourth goals in the 4-2 win over No. 16 Wake Forest, scoring a goal of her own off of a penalty corner before sending in a perfect pass to set up a goal by Lucy Hyams. Against No. 14 Old Dominion, Vittese’s play in the midfield helped stifle the ODU attack, holding the Monarchs to zero shots on goal. Offensively, she sent a long cross through the circle that was deflected in by Riley Tata for the Cavaliers’ first goal and then converted a penalty stroke in the second half to give the Cavaliers a 2-0 victory. Vittese was named the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Albany goalkeeper Maxi Primus was named the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I National Defensive Player of the Week.

Virginia will be back on the road next weekend, playing at No. 3 North Carolina on Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. The Cavaliers next home game will be on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they host No. 3 Syracuse.
