Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 17 Virginia men’s golf team heads to Tennessee this weekend for the 19th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Jonesborough. The tournament takes place at the par-72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club.

The three-day event gets underway Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., while Saturday’s second round will also start at 8:30 a.m., with each team beginning on No. 1. Sunday’s tee times and pairings will be released at the conclusion of Saturday’s round.

Joining ETSU and UVA in the field are Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Furman, Kansas State, Kent State, Louisville, Missouri, Penn State, Tennessee, VCU, Villanova, Virginia Tech and UNC Wilmington.

The Virginia lineup includes seniors Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.), sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) and freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.). Freshman Nathan Chuwait (Herndon, Va.) will make his collegiate debut, competing as an individual in the field.

Since its first year of competition in 1998, the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate has featured players who have gone on to enjoy successful careers on the PGA and European PGA Tours. This list of names includes Matt Kuchar, Luke Donald, Lucas Glover, Bill Haas and Webb Simpson, to name a few.

Virginia won the tournament in 2013, shooting 22-under 842.

The Cavaliers started the current season off with a first-place finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. UVA placed 6th at the Inverness Intercollegiate in its last event. Bard leads the team with a 70.17 stroke average while Stanger is second at 70.50.
