ITA Atlantic Regional Page (draws, results)

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s tennis senior J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) won the singles title at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, held at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.

Aragone downed Richmond’s Jacob Dunbar 6-1, 6-4 in the Tuesday (Oct. 18) final, the eighth time that a Cavalier has won the ITA Regional singles title.

The victory earns Aragone a place in the upcoming ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, being held Nov. 3-6 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Aragone, who was the No. 2 seed in the 120-player field of the main draw, earned a first-round bye, and then opened with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Navy’s Andre Majkic on Saturday. Aragone faced Henry Gordon of Penn State on Sunday in the Round of 32, winning 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, before downing Virginia Tech’s Mitch Harper, 6-2, 6-4. On Monday, he logged a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Old Dominion’s Aziz Kijametovic in the quarters and won 7-6 (2), 6-2 over Virginia Tech’s Jai Corbett in the semis to earn his spot in the final.

Aragone joins Huntley Montgomery (2000), Dominic Inglot (2007-08), Jarmere Jenkins (2009-10), Harrison Richmond (2012) and Ryan Shane (2014) on the list of Virginia players who have won an ITA Regional singles title.
