CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team will play at Wake Forest on Friday (Oct. 14) at 7:30 p.m. and at Duke on Saturday (Oct. 15) at 6:30 p.m. in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Virginia (4-14, 1-5 ACC) earned a 3-0 sweep over Clemson last Saturday to halt a 12-match losing skid. The Cavaliers had their best offensive performance of the season with a .375 hitting percentage. Senior Jasmine Burton (West Hills, Calif.) led UVA with 12 kills, four services aces and three blocks.
On the season, Virginia ranks fourth in the ACC in blocks, averaging 2.47 blocks per set. Virginia has recorded double-figure blocks in eight matches, including 13.0 against Georgia Tech last weekend.
Wake Forest (7-11, 3-4 ACC) is coming off a five-set loss to Duke at home on Wednesday night. The Demon Deacons are averaging 13.31 kills per set on a .201 hitting percentage. Kylie Long leads the team and ranks third in the ACC with 4.04 kills per set and Caroline Rassenfoss is adding 3.66 kills per set.
In the first meeting this season, Virginia won the first set 25-20, but Wake Forest edged the Cavaliers in set two (25-23) and three (26-24) and closed the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth set. Virginia leads the overall series 26-21. The last time the Cavaliers won on the road at WF was on Sept. 28, 2013 with a 3-0 sweep.
Duke (12-5, 6-1 ACC) has won four-straight matches entering this weekend. The Blue Devils lead the league in kills (13.75 per set), digs (17.76 per set) and opponent hitting percentage (.164). Six players are averaging over 2.00 kills per set, led by Jordan Tucker with 2.84. Sasha Karelov leads in the conference in digs, averaging 5.06 per set.
UVA and Duke played a close five-set match earlier this season, with the Blue Devils edging out the win 3-2. The first four sets were all decided by three points or less, with two requiring extra points. Duke leads the overall series 50-13. Virginia won the match in Durham last season, 3-1, which was the first win for the Cavaliers at Cameron Indoor Stadium since 2003.
Virginia will return home to host No. 15 Florida State and Miami Oct. 21-22 in Memorial Gymnasium.
