Chapel Hill, N.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team shot 9-over 297 during the first round of play at the Tar Heel Invitational and are tied for 12th place with tournament host North Carolina. Wake Forest leads the field at 6-under 282.

Senior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) led UVA by shooting 1-under 71. She is in 12th place following the first 18 holes of play. Sophomore Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) is in 35th place at 74 while freshman Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and sophomore Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) are tied for 57th after posting scores of 4-over 76.

Sophomore Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) is in 76th place with a 78. Sophomore Rachel Corry (Ridgefield, Conn.), competing as an individual, carded a round of 77 and is in 68th place. The round marked the collegiate debut for Corry.

Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho led the field after shooting 5-under 67.

The three-day tournament runs through Sunday.
