Chapel Hill, N.C. – The Virginia women’s golf team wrapped up its play at the Tar Heel Invitational with an eighth-place finish in the 18-team field. UVA shot 7-over 295 during Sunday’s final round for a 54-hole total of 11-over 875. Wake Forest won the team title at 854.

The Cavaliers were led by sophomore Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.), who finished 17th at 2-over 218. Gonzales also had UVA’s best final-round score, shooting 1-under 71. It marked the first time in Gonzales’ career she has posted the team’s best tournament finish.

Sophomore Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) and senior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) tied for 22nd place at 4-over 220. Redding shot 73 during the final round while Diaz-Yi struggled with a 79.

Sophomore Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) was 45th at 224 while freshman Julia Ford was 60th at 227. Rachel Corry (Ridgefield, Conn.), competing as an individual, was also 60th in her first collegiate event.

The Cavaliers will wrap up their fall schedule later this month when they compete at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
