Jonesborough, Tenn. – The No. 17 Virginia men’s golf team picked up its second win in three tournaments this fall by running away with the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate championship. The Hoos set the tournament scoring record in the 19th playing of the event, winning with a score of 35-under 829. Runner-up Missouri shot 22-under 841.

It marked the second time UVA has taken top honors at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The Cavaliers won in 2013 by shooting 22-under par.

UVA was led by three top-five finishes, topped by sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.). Walsh finished second overall at 11-under 205. He had scores of 71, 65 and 69 on the par-72 Blackthorn Club course. His finish, second-round score and 54-hole total were all career bests.

Tying for fifth place were Cavalier seniors Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) and Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.). They both shot 10-under 206, which was Stanger’s best tournament score. He had a final round of 68 while Bard, who led the tournament after two rounds, finished with a 73.

Bard’s finish marked the 16th time he has posted a top-10 finish. It was Stanger’s 11th top-10 performance.

Freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) was 22nd at 2-under 214 while junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) was 28th at even par 216. Schaap posted a 72 on Sunday while Walker shot 71.

Freshman Nathan Chuwait (Herndon, Va.), competing as an individual, was 65th at 224.
