CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia junior midfielder Tara Vittese (Cherry Hill, N.J.) has been selected the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore goalkeeper Carrera Lucas has been named the ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week in field hockey honors announced Tuesday (Oct. 18) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Vittese set up the game-tying goal in a 3-2 win at William and Mary, feeding a pass into Riley Tata at the near post, and scored the game-winner four minutes later on a penalty corner. In Saturday’s 1-0 overtime win against No. 2 Syracuse, Vittese received the ball from a penalty corner insertion, dribbling at the top of the circle and found Lucy Hyams in position in front of the net for the game-winner.
Lucas picked up her fourth shutout of the season with a 1-0 overtime victory over No. 2 Syracuse on Saturday. The sophomore made some huge stops against the Orange, especially in the second half when Syracuse took 12 shots. In the 3-2 win over William & Mary, Lucas tallied five saves, including a key stop on a penalty corner after time had expired to preserve the victory.
This is the second ACC Player of the Week honor of the year for Vittese and the fifth in her career. This is Lucas’ first player of the week award.
No. 9 Virginia returns to Turf Field on Friday, Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. to host No. 7 Louisville in the final regular-season ACC contest of the year. Admission is free for all regular-season home games at Turf Field.
