Alpharetta, Ga. – Virginia senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) dropped in a five-foot birdie putt on his final hole to tie for medalist honors and help seventh-ranked UVA to the co-championships at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The win was UVA’s third in four fall tournaments. It was the third consecutive year a Cavalier finished first at the event.

Stanger shot even par 72 during Sunday’s final round to share individual honors with Oklahoma’s Max McGreevy. It marked the second time in his career he has finished atop the leaderboard. He tied for first at the General Hackler Championship last March in Myrtle Beach. Stanger shot 67 during the opening round and 68 during the second round.

Virginia posted a final-round score of 8-under 280 for a 54-hole total of 8-under 856. Texas shot the tournament’s best 18-hole score, 11-under 277, to tied the Cavaliers for top honors. The tournament’s 17-team field included 11 teams ranked in the current Golfstat top-25 rankings.

Junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) had UVA’s best final round score. He shot 5-under 67, including an eagle on his first hole. Walker finished 12th overall at 3-under 213.

UVA freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) was 24th at 217, including a 71 on Sunday. Senior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.), who finished first at the tournament the past two years, was 56th after shooting 70 during the final round for a final score of 223. Sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) was 73rd at 229.
