CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia field hockey team (15-7) earned an automatic bid into the 2016 NCAA Championship and will head to University Park, Pa. for the first and second round games being held Nov. 12-13 at Penn State.

Virginia, the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference champions, earned the ACC’s automatic bid into the field of 18 teams and will face Michigan (12-7) on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. Penn State (17-2) and Princeton (10-7) will play the other first-round game that same day at 11:30 a.m. The winners will advance to the second round game on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.

This is the 21st trip to NCAA Tournament for the Cavaliers and their ninth in head coach Michele Madison‘s 11 seasons at Virginia.

Duke, Maryland and Syracuse will serve as the other three host sites for the first and second round games. The winner of each site will advance to the NCAA semifinals on Nov. 18 at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. The National Championship game will take place on Nov. 20.
