Smith Aids Americans in USA College Challenge Win

INDIANAPOLIS-Virginia senior swimmer Leah Smith won three events and helped the American squad defeat an all-star squad from the Big Ten Conference, 349-247, in the 2016 USA College Challenge Nov. 12-13 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
On Saturday, Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:32.51, which is an NCAA automatic-qualifying time and the best time in the nation this year. Less than 20 minutes later, she was the anchor of the 800 free relay that placed first in 6:56.09.
On Sunday, Smith won the 1,000 free in 9:21.54, the second-fastest time in the country and 15 minutes later, picked up a third-place finish in the 200 free in 1:44.37, which is the sixth-best time in the country.
Also in Indianapolis was Virginia assistant coach Cory Chitwood, who was serving as an assistant coach for Team USA.
