GREENSBORO, N.C.-Freshman Bryce Shelton won the men’s platform diving event as the Cavalier diving corps competed at the NC State/GAC Invite Saturday (Nov. 19) at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.

In the men’s platform event, Shelton (Vienna, Va.) qualified for the finals with a score of 303.55, then earned a score of 326.80 in the finals to win the event. His score of 326.80 ranks sixth on UVA’s all-time list. Freshman Samson Miller (Fairfax, Va.) placed 12th with a prelim score of 246.50.

Sophomore Kylie Towbin (New Canaan, Conn.) placed seventh overall in the women’s platform event with a finals score of 201.00 after recording a score of 229.40 in the prelims.

Junior Corey Johnson (Ambler, Pa.) and freshman Sydney Dusel (Naperville, Ill.) placed in a tie for 17th with prelim scores of 166.25 each. Sophomore Kirsten Parkinson (Stamford, Conn.) was 19th with a prelim score of 165.85.

“I was happy with how our divers performed today,” UVA head diving coach Jason Glorius said. “It was important for us to add another platform meet to the schedule so that we are ready when it counts during the championship portion of the season. I’m really happy we got to complete the 10 new dives we learned last week. Bryce of course had a great meet, winning the men’s final.”

Next up, the full UVA swimming and diving program will be in action at the Georgia Fall Invitational Dec. 2-4 in Athens, Ga.
