2017 Virginia Softball Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The field has been set for the opening weekend of competition with Virginia set to face five opponents at the Kajikawa Classic the weekend of Feb. 9-11, 2017, at the annual event hosted by Arizona State.

The Cavaliers jump right out of the gates with games against a pair of Pac-12 opponents in Oregon and Arizona State on the first day.

“We look forward to competing in the Kajikawa Classic,” said Virginia head coach Joanna Hardin. “The field is so competitive, and we hit the ground running with Oregon and Arizona State to open the season. To be the best, you have to play the best and anytime you can compete against two powerhouse programs like that it’s a great opportunity.

“But we can’t just focus on the first day, because the whole weekend will be a great challenge for the team with Western Michigan, UTEP and San Jose State waiting to round out the weekend. We look forward to both the challenge and the opportunity in front of us.”

Day two of competition will feature games against Western Michigan and UTEP before the Cavaliers close the trip out west with San Jose State on Saturday.

Virginia plays on the road for the first three weekends of the season, following up the Kajikawa Classic with tournaments at Charleston Southern and East Carolina. The home-opener for the Cavaliers is a three-game series against Virginia Tech that begins on Friday, Mar. 3.
