2017 Virginia Women’s Lacrosse Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s lacrosse released its 2017 schedule on Wednesday (Dec. 14). The slate features 10 home games and 13 of 17 games will be played in the state of Virginia. The opponents include 11 teams that competed in the 2016 NCAA Championships, including each of the Final Four participants.

“We are looking forward to a great 2017 schedule that will challenge us,” head coach Julie Myers said. “We are always excited to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference, which is the toughest league in the country. During the regular season, we will face the majority of the teams that are ranked in the top 20 nationally, including all four teams from the Final Four in 2016. This season we have added Elon and Oregon to the slate, which brings a new challenge to a tough schedule.”

After extending its streak of consecutive NCAA championship appearances to 21, Virginia will open its 2017 campaign at home against Elon on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Klöckner Stadium.

The home schedule also includes contests with Princeton (Feb. 25), Loyola (March 15), Notre Dame (March 18), Duke (March 25), Oregon (March 29), Maryland (April 5), Navy (April 12), Louisville (April 15) and Virginia Tech (April 22).

The Cavaliers will travel to Richmond (Feb. 22), William & Mary (March 2), Syracuse (March 5), reigning NCAA champion North Carolina (March 11), James Madison (March 22), Boston College (April 1) and Penn State (April 8).

Team Highlights
Virginia returns eight starters, including three IWLCA All-South honorees in senior Maggie Preas (Rockville, Md.), junior Kasey Behr (Northport, N.Y) and junior Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.). UVA’s top three scorers from a year ago will be back, led by Behr and senior Posey Valis (Baltimore, Md.) with 41 points each. Senior Besser Dyson (Alexandria, Va.) led UVA in assists with 19 last season. Preas is the top-returning defender after accumulating 23 ground balls, 35 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers.
