BLACKSBURG, Va.-The Virginia track and field teams picked up two event wins on the second day of the Virginia Tech Invitational Saturday (Jan. 14) at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.

Senior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) picked up the win in the women’s shot put with a final throw of 16.25m (53′ 3.75″), which ranks ninth in the nation.

In the men’s triple jump, Jordan Scott (Portmore, Jamaica) won with a UVA freshman record mark of 15.78m (51′ 9.25″), which is tied for fifth in the nation. Junior Aaron Worrell (Fort Eustis) was second with a jump of 15.25m (50′ 0.5″).

“Jordan and Aaron competed well from a short approach today,” UVA assistant coach Mario Wilson said. “They compete with each other everytday so as the season progresses they too should continue to improve in their performances.”

“I am very pleased overall,” UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer said. “I know several student-athletes have gained confidence from posting lifetime bests in their opening meet.

“The first meet of the year is all about evaluating and learning. We had some bright moments this weekend, but there are a lot of needs to be corrected and improved on in the coming weeks for us to reach our desired outcome.”

Sophomore Nace Plesko (Ljubljana, Slovenia) finished second in the men’s shot put with a mark of 17.13m (56′ 2.5″), which ranks seventh on Virginia’s all-time list.

Junior Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) placed second in the women’s pole vault with a height of 4.12m (13′ 6.25″), while freshman Tedi DeMaria (Feura Bush, N.Y.) finished fifth with a mark of 3.77m (12′ 4.5″), which ranks fifth on UVA’s all-time list and third on the freshman list.

In the women’s triple jump, sophomore Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.) was second with a mark of 12.34m (40′ 6″), which ranks ninth on UVA’s all-time list, while redshirt sophomore Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) was fourth with a distance of 12.10m (39′ 8.5″).

Next up, the Cavaliers compete at the Notre Dame Invitational Jan. 21 in Notre Dame, Ind.

“We are excited to head to Notre Dame with the opportunity to become familiar with the facility that will host the ACC Indoor Championships,” Fetzer said.
