MELBOURNE, Australia – Two Virginia men’s tennis alums, Treat Huey ’08 and Dominic Inglot ’09, are competing in the main draw of men’s doubles at the Australian Open.

Inglot, playing alongside partner Florin Mergea have advanced to the third round of doubles. The tandem downed Luke Saville and Jordan Thompson 6-2, 7-5 in the first round and Julien Benneteau and Jeremy Chardy, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2) in the second round before falling 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 to top-seeded Pierre-Hugues Herber and Nicolas Mahut in the third round. Inglot and Mergea were seeded 16th in the draw and opened up play on Wednesday. Mergea is currently ranked No. 23 in doubles. Inglot is playing in his fifth Australia Open. Last year, he advanced to the third round after going to back-to-back quarterfinals in 2014 and 2015.

Huey and his partner, Max Mirnyi, downed Leander Paes and Andre Sa 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the first round, before being edged 7-6 (10), 7-6 (5) by Australians Sam Groth and Chris Guccione in the second round. Huey and Mirnyi were seeded 10th in the draw. Mirnyi is currently ranked No. 21 in doubles with Huey at No. 22. The tandem played together most of last season, earning a spot in the 2016 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in November. The tandem also advanced to the semifinals at Wimbledon. They will face Leander Paes and Andre Sa in the first round.

Huey is also playing in the mixed doubles tournament, partnering with Andreja Klepac. They dropped a close 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5), 1-0 [10-8] match to Michaella Krajicek and Raven Klaasen in the opening round.
