Maggie Preas Named Preseason All-ACC

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s lacrosse senior defender Maggie Preas (Rockville, Md.) was named to the Preseason All-ACC team voted on by the league coaches, the conference office announced on Wednesday (Feb. 1).
Preas was a second-team All-ACC selection and earned IWLCA All-South Region honors a year ago after totaling 23 ground balls, 35 draw controls and 16 caused turnovers to anchor the Cavalier defensive unit. Preas has also been selected to the 2017 Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Second Team.
Virginia was picked to finish in a tie for fifth in the ACC Preseason Poll. The Cavaliers enter the season ranked 13th and 14th in the Inside Lacrosse Cascade Media Poll and IWLCA Coaches Poll, respectively.
Junior goalkeeper Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.) was named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Third Team and sophomore defender Kaitlin Luzik was an honorable mention selection.
The Cavaliers return eight starters from 2016, including Preas, Vander Kolk and Luzik. UVA’s top three scorers from a year ago will be back, led by junior Kasey Behr (Northport, N.Y.) and senior Posey Valis (Baltimore, Md.) with 41 points each. Senior Besser Dyson (Alexandria, Va.) led UVA in assists with 19.
Virginia will open the 2017 season at home against Elon on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m.
